Winter is officially upon us however, it doesn’t have to stop you from getting on the water! Sailing during the off-peak season is a unique experience with beautiful sunrises, crisp sea air and spectacular wildlife migrating through the city's waters. Experience Sydney’s waterfront without the summer crowds Whilst many people head indoors to wait for warmer days, quiet beaches and tranquil bays are left for the more seasoned sailor to enjoy. If you’re hiring one of our luxury vessels for day use or overnight charter, this is the perfect opportunity to put down the anchor and enjoy a waterfront location without the chaos of the summer crowds!
Our popular whale watching tours also run frequently throughout the winter season, with other wildlife frequently visiting Sydney’s harbour. Our team have everything you need to experience a memorable cruise this winter, all you need to do is stay warm!

Our Any Boat easy tips for keeping warm on the water:

Dress for the weather, not the occasion
We recommend putting away the bikini and thongs for now as you’ll soon regret this after you leave the harbour! Temperatures at sea feel significantly cooler than those on land and in the winter, waves, wind and even rain can make the experience even colder. Make comfortable dress choices, rather than fashion statements. Here is our crew’s guide to a winter-ready wardrobe:
- Add layers that are thick, this will be your thermal protection to maintain heat, layers can be removed if you get too warm or added if you get too cold!
- Waterproof jacket even when you’re not sailing in the rain!! Spray from the ocean can occasionally splash guests whilst they enjoy outdoor deck areas, which during winter months will feel a bit colder than usual.
- Gloves, Hat, Scarves to warm up your fingers, chest and head from the colder wind. These areas of your body can lose heat quickly.
- Avoid clothes that stay damp and keep you colder for longer! Anything which takes a long time to dry on the line at home should be avoided onboard during the winter, such as jeans or cotton shoes.

Tasty treats to make you feel toasty!
If you’re dropping down the anchor to take in the view, a cold glass of tonic may not hit the same as it did in the summer! From delicious hot chocolates to eloquent mulled wines, there are plenty of hot drink and food options to enjoy onboard whilst warming up your body temperature. Insulated cups and mugs can keep drinks at a comfortable temperature for the entirety of your trip. If you’re hiring one of our luxury vessels, a well-equipped kitchen awaits you on many options in our fleet, meaning you can put together a warm meal or drink whenever you’d like!

Our team share some of their tasty favourites to warm up on a winter sail:
- Belgium hot chocolate (with a drop of Bailey's if the captain allows!)
- Hot buttered rum
- Teas (earl grey, English breakfast)
- Coffee (particularly for morning cruises)
- Hot mulled wine

Bring onboard cosy cabin comforts!
Whether you’re on one of our daytime cruises or staying overnight in one of our cosy cabins, it is important to feel comfortable and warm whilst at sea! Our Whale Watching cruises can last several hours if we are busy whale spotting, meaning you could be out on the water for longer than anticipated. When packing in the morning, add extra layers, travel blankets and a spare change of clothes to prepare for the chilly winter day, ensuring you feel comfortable enough to enjoy all of the surroundings.

For overnight charters, extra pillows, blankets, hot drinks and warm winter meals will enhance your sailing experience. Bring two sets of everything to cover any splashes, rainy days or urgent spillages that may take place on board. Being prepared for all conditions the season may bring will guarantee you always have something to keep you warm. And remember, options are limited once you’ve left the harbour!
