Bareboat vs Skippered Charters | Any Boat

Comparing bareboat charters against skippered and crewed options

What is a bareboat charter?

Bareboat Sailing Charters on Colina

Bareboat charters allow customers to take our vessels out on the harbour for the day with no skipper or crew. This is the ideal charter option for experienced, adventurous and independent sailors. The bareboat necessities for our Australian vessels include a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper, International Certificate of Competence (ICC), or an ASA 103, 104 or above.

Advantages

The perks of bareboating are vast. To name a few;

  • Owning and maintaining a vessel is costly, and a bareboat charter allows you to have all of the luxuries and freedoms of owning a boat for a fraction of the cost.
  • Unlike skippered charters, bareboating allows you to choose your journey for the day, as you control where you go, how long you stay, what activities you do, and more.
  • Our exclusive network of private boat owners is the largest in Australia, meaning you can captain some of the most premium vessels in the nation for the day. Embark on the Colina or Black Jack and explore the beautiful Sydney Harbour or, for those further north, choose from one of our Whitsundays bareboating charters, and discover new beaches to spend your day at

Disadvantages

Bareboat charters are, unfortunately, not for the inexperienced. Our bareboat necessities mandate that people that wish to partake in this journey must have a valid RYA Day Skipper qualification, International Certificate of Competence (ICC), or an ASA 103, 104 or above. Moreover, as you are taking responsibility for the vessel, you must ensure that you and your passengers adhere to all safety procedures.

What are skippered charters?

Skippered charters allow customers to take out one of our vessels for the day with one of our experienced skippers, who will drive the boat. This charter is ideal for those seeking a day of comfort and relaxation, as your skipper will captain your vessel, brief your passengers on and uphold safety protocols, and tailor your itinerary to you and your guests.

Advantages

A different experience to bareboating, skippered charters offer the benefit of;

  • Peace of mind, as you and your guests can relax knowing that you have an experienced and safe sailor in charge of your vessel for the day
  • A tailored itinerary from a skipper that has vast sailing experience who can show you the hidden gems of the region you’re in, such as the untouched swimming spots in Sydney that can only be accessed by boat, or the best snorkelling grounds in the picturesque Whitsundays

Disadvantages

Our skippers are professionals in sailing and, as such, can’t provide hospitality services such as meals and beverages for the day. Our crewed charters are the best option for those looking for a more catered boating experience.

What are crewed charters?

Crewed Charters on Sydney Harbour Crewed charters are for those looking to live luxuriously for the day, going one step above a skippered charter by providing you with a dedicated staff for the day that will provide you with meals, beverages and other hospitality services.

Advantages

Our crewed charters will take care of all your needs, meaning that you and your passengers can sit back and relax for the day. Our services include;

  • Prepared meals and beverages, served by our attentive staff, as well as additional hospitality services such as clearing and cleaning up plates and utensils
  • A tailored itinerary from one of our experienced skippers
  • Option to do an overnight stay on one of our premium vessels

Disadvantages

Since crewed charters are our most luxurious and inclusive option, they are also the most expensive.

AnyBoat has several boats that can be chartered as either bareboat or skippered.

At AnyBoat, we cater to all needs, from the adventurous-at-heart who would like to captain their vessel for the day to those who would like to live luxuriously for the day with catered meals and beverages and a customised sailing journey.
